One in six Americans is food-insecure. Even more shocking is that one in four children lives in a food-insecure household. Given the current state of the economy, it is going to take a while for these numbers to drop.

Hunger is not a problem unique to the developing world. In 2008, 49 million people and 17.1 million households were found to be food-insecure in the United States. This is too many hungry people, especially considering we live in the most abundant food-producing country in the world.
